Cheryl Hunt

Published Poet and Spoken Word Artist, Cheryl Hunt, is creating new paths through Chicago, Illinois. A Chicago native, Cheryl was introduced to poetry at age three when she recited by memory,  A Raisin in the Sun in a pre-school performance. Then again, when asked by a 4th grade teacher to write a poem about the late Mayor Richard J. Daley where she won the class poetry contest. Since that day, Cheryl has been putting her pen to paper.

After living close to 10 yrs. in San Diego, Ca, in the summer of 1999, Cheryl¼s poem of dedication to her mother,  Know Love, was published in the anthology, Blossom in the Dawning. The following year, Cheryl was calling Chicago home again. Since then, she has performed in Atlanta, Georgia at the Apache Cafe, a well known spot for upcoming spoken word artists. Locally, Cheryl has performed at Fred Anderson¼s Velvet Lounge, Sweet Georgia Browns, and a variety of venues throughout the city. Cheryl has performed with musicians from the AACM, the Ari Brown Quartet, and Michael  Rhamlee Davis from Earth Wind & Fire, to name a few. In the fall of 2007, Cheryl founded JazzFanzz, where she links jazz musicians and jazz fans through online information and event videos. She is also a member of The Great Black Music Project and has been a guest of StarPlanetTV and The Jazz Supreme Show on WHPK radio Chicago.

Cheryl is currently involved with many projects around the city including Universal Alley Jazz Jam, teaching poetry and spoken word at an After School Program in Roseland, and working on her upcoming CD and book. Rooted in her ancestrial teachings, Cheryl¼s mission is to continue to educate and maintain our storytelling knowlegde. Cheryl can be contacted at 773-316-0308 or spokentouch@yahoo.com.
