Sharon Irving

Singer, songwriter, worship leader, poet, actress & spreader of holy mischief. A native of Chicago, born & raised on the South Side & daughter of famed jazz musician & musical director of Miles Davis, Robert Irving III.

Sharon began her artistic journey as a young girl. She always had dreams of becoming an actress & singer. As a child, she recalls musings of make believing & frequently running into her fathers’ studio singing & dancing made up songs.

S began pursuing an artistic journey as a worship leader during her time at North Park University, located on the north west side of Chicago. Majoring in Communication Studies with a minor in Sociology, she developed a heart for racial reconciliation & social justice. She realized that she wanted to be a “voice for the voiceless” through spoken word & song. She was a featured vocalist & spoken word artist on the North Park University Album & wrote her first spoken word piece around justice during that time.

“I love blending different art form & writing songs about what it means to be human in a broken world. I draw inspiration from every genre, & I mean every genre. I have a heart for pursuing new methodologies & styles in worship.”

In 2010 Sharon released her first spoken word EP entitled “Simplicity”. The EP was a family affair, produced by her younger brother Jeremy Irving aka Jeremiah Jae & her father.

Currently Sharon is on staff & apart of the worship team at Willow Creek Community church in South Barrington IL. She has traveled extensively to lead worship & perform spoken word in other churches across America. As a solo artist Sharon has lead worship alongside artist Darlene Zschech. She led worship & spoken word for the renowned event, CHIC – “a triennial youth event intended to encourage and equip students to invite Jesus to remake their lives and to take Jesus to the rest of the world.”

Sharon loves to laugh, eat, take long naps, time with her grandmother & mother, jam sessions with her father & brother, & watching the Office.

On March 26, 2011 Sharon married her best friend, Philip Carlson. Phil brings out the quirky & silly side of Sharon. She loves her new initials, SIC (Sharon Irving Carlson).

Phil & Sharon met at 80s night. True story.
