Through the Jacob H. Carruthers Center for Inner City Studies (JHCCICS) of Northeastern Illinois University, a virtual "house" would be built. A house that would honor Black artists and groups, a house that would be welcoming to educators, students, and the casually curious. A house built strong enough to withstand the winds of change and the whim of conventional archiving systems. A house that would welcome new thought and processes. And so, was born The Great Black Music Project.
Both an archival system using the latest technological processes to be housed at the JHCCISC and a virtual house on the world wide web - accessible globally by all interested.
The capabilities of the project are vast enough to be a repository of both audio and video, recordings, photos, news clips, essays, critical review and thought - from the analog past to the digital future - The Great Black Music Project!
